12 and 13 July: Participated in the 69th ISSS Conference. The conference page hold some trends I observed in the conference conversations compared to previous years.
12 July: We re-read one of the great books of wisdom on nature and man: Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. A great book reflecting on the character of man in its social context, in context of nature, and concerned with doing the right. In a sense, this is a seminal signpost work on how to think Sustainability.
9 July: We created the site patterns.olaf.wiki.cafe as a place where we will develop solution designs for problems I engage with: social systems, knowledge, sustainability.
3 July: we started to read Buddenbrooks by Thomas Mann. In an era of political and economic transformation, showing both opportunities and risks, this seemed an appropriate novel that we can learn from.
28 June: We read Die Politik der Gesellschaft by Niklas Luhmann. The book provides how the political systems of societies are connected to, influencing and influenced by other functional systems of society, such as the economy, the legal system, etcetera.
7 June: we started to read the Collected Works of Kurt Tucholsky. His commentaries and descriptions of how fascism conquered Germany remind us strongly of economic and political developments in several nation states today
May 30: We read Zur Verteidigung der Demokratie by Thomas Mann.
1 Feb: We read Das Recht der Gesellschaft (English: the Law of Society), by Niklas Luhmann. On how law as an autopoietic system has differentiated itself in our societies.
