Science of Sustainability

Science of Sustainability is a journal where I write about the the Sustainability Science, adding to key concepts, evaluating concepts, and build a concept map of sustainability.

A key challenge of sustainability is to know what we mean by sustainability. Only then we can speak about it, learn about it, and intentionally (try to) influence it.

We want to think through the idea of sustainability and its scientific study. This page is the home of that topic, and from here I further develop the concept of Sustainability and its related systems.

The way of working is by journaling: knowledge and insights gained over time are referenced and codified in this page and in the pages originating from it.

The Science of Sustainabilitz journal provides a graphical model of its embedded knowledge. To this end, I use the graphical knowledge connection tools of the federated wiki toolbox. Read more about the ScieSus Way of Journaling.

The graphic expression of this journal shows which topics are elaborated linked to every journal page. Clicking nodes - the topics in the elliptic graphical elements - takes you to the corresponding pages. In this way, the reader can navigate along the flow of knowledfge and insights, without the need for structuring pages hierarchically or by any other predescribed criterium of order.

As a start, the key idea of this journal has to do with:

* Object: What is Sustainability and the science of it about?

* Being: what do we mean when we say something is sustainable?

* Knowing: how do we know something about the object, about how it is doing?

Of course, the elements of this Trinity are related: what I know (object) co-depends on what I am (being) and can know (knowing).
