Notes on the Synthesis of Form

Notes on the Synthesis of Form is a book by Christopher Alexander, first published in 1964. Form is understood as an Arrangement, or an Arrangement of Patterns.

Tackling Design problems essentially is creating a Good Fit between a Form as an arrangement of Patterns and a Context.

Seeing Bad Fit is much easier than seeing Good Fit, Alexander stipulates. It crossed my mind that many organizational disagreements or conflicts are essentially about affecting the context from which a design can be appreciated. Changing the context means breaking or changing the fit, after which the fit needs to be established or justified again.
